Foam for tank dividers

Has anyone found a way to obtain cheap foam for making tank dividers? The stuff from swisstropicals is priced well, but it just seems like this stuff could be obtained from a packaging supply company in volume for far less. Just wondering.

Do a quick search on the forum, we have this topic come up every now and then. You can get the "right" foam in bulk, but you have to know what to ask for and be willing to really buy in bulk. Do your homework, though, because as I'm sure you already know, not all foam is the same.

You also might want to take a look at AngelsPlus....they also sell foam and might be willing to work with you for a larger order.

You won't find the same foam that swisstropicals sells from a packaging company, I've never seen open-cell packing foam. Aside from the cell structure, which has a huge impact on water flow, I doubt that the cheaper foam would hold us as well or as long in an aquarium. I'm all for saving a buck wherever possible, but in this case you really do get what you pay for IME. I've used the poret foam for tank dividers, mattenfilters, and cut up for hob and canister filter media. It lasts for years, even better than the aquaclear sponge blocks used to years ago.

Agreed
You will find cheaper but you wont find better. I've been using mine for years also.

I use the sponge filter type sheet, it can be very costly.
