Flowerhorns

Thanks guys - I've thought way too much about this.

I was disappointed as well about the ACA in Cinci. Sadly, it was people threatening to quit (vs. accept others) that led to the decision.

Maybe we can provide a better example for 2011?!?

I second that. Best Comment on the Flowerhorn subject I've read too. I just wish all these folks that are against them would come around and just accept them in the Cichlid hobby. We'd have so many more hobbiest if we just all got together as a group. I have absolutely no problem with hybrids and Flowerhorns and I've been in the hobby for a good 15 years. I was really disappointed that Cinn, ditched the Flowerhorn class this year just because of some misguided comments by some of the long standing ACA members. It would have been a total blast to get all the Cichlids together and have a fish war lol afterall the theme this year is the Hybrid Menace.

I know this is a very old thread but. wanted to say. i dont have a problem with hybrids as long as they are sold for exactly what they are Hybrids. As stated a few time before in this thread. I recently purchased 6 fish that where sold to me as Flowerhorns. Only for me to find out they are a flowerhorn texas cichlid mix. There goes my hopes of getting some flowerhorns to breed. now what to do with the mutts i have.

It's really not a lot different - in my opinion - than if someone sold you for example wild Texas cichlids and they ended up being regular Lfs ones.

Bring them back to the place where you bought them, sell them as what they are (red Texas which is a hybrid is highly valued by some), keep them or feed them to something , it's really up to you

I would argue that misrepresentations in sales occurs all over the hobby and not just with flowerhorns

Reading back through this...it was an awesome thread if for nothing else than the hybrid debate morphing into a debate about evolution... Good stuff!
