Could Use Some Help Guys

My son was born today but he wasn't due for another month so he is having some breathing problems. I could just use some prayers/well wishes whatever you believe in. He's getting transferred to another hospital in a little bit. Now I've got to find a way to get some diapers and formula. It sucks not having enough work and not being able to find a job.

Thinking positive thoughts!

I would definitely ask at the hospital about any local services for helping out with diapers / formula, etc... Also (not to be gross) but there's no better food for babies than breast milk (and it's free)...

Might be tough to breast feed a baby born one month pre-mature...

I'm no expert but definitely breast-feedable-able at 4 weeks early...or at least to pump and feed through a bottle...

Our twins were born just shy of 37 weeks and spent a day in the Neonatal ICU, mostly for observation. They were all over the...uh...breast milk sources.

+1 on the mommy milk, plus it doesn't stain when they spit up:) Call your local WIC office and go talk to them. They have free pumps and can get you in touch with many other services.

my brother was born like 4-5 weeks early =D
congratulations on the baby! whats the chosen name?
as far as helpp goes, i would defenitly contact a social worker to get you those things. diapers, you can get from the hospital when they are new born they give you a lot of them while in the hospital. as far as formula, dont get any unless wife runs out of natural breast milk=D besides the first feeding the babies get something else, not milk but a fattier stuff...cant remember the name. if the baby can not get it from the breasth try a pump to get her milk and use a bottle. my son uses the dr brown's bottles that have a tube that goes in and helps prevent the baby from taking too much air in. worked really well! again congrats and everything will be well with your family

BS LOL Most medications can be taken. Talk to a pediatrician about the type of medication she is taking, and other options she may have. Also, ask the hospital to talk to your local La Leche League. They can help in many ways as well. Check out this website from the American Academy of Pediatrics on the transfer of drugs and other substances into human milk. Her medication just may be listed :)

Grats on the little one. 4 weeks is nothing nowadays. Keep your head up man. See if anyone on here can help you find a job. Never hurts to ask.

Congrats Davey! Sounds like you son has apnea. My oldest was a 3 month preemie. He had that and bradycardia. Its rough at first but they get stronger by the day and get over it. I believe ophellia77 is correct with the breast milk/meds. Also talk to your church a lot of times they help fast in these crisis moments. Godspeed to you and your new child.

My 4th was also a 28weeker. He's 16 now, 220lbs, healthy as a horse. I also pumped and bottled for the first few weeks, he ended up being lactose intolerant, had to use the "purple" can formula, lactose free, which to my surprise was readily available. Also, +1 on WIC, please check it out. Good luck, and congrats!

Thanks guys. I have two girls also about to be 4 and 5 so I know all about the not sleeping lol. Didnt even think about asking the church which is weird considering my granddad is a pastor. :screwy: His lungs just didnt have time to fully develop since he was early. Also since he was such a fast delivery his lungs didnt get to absorb all the fluid in them like they should have. He didnt have enough surfactant in his lungs the doctor said also.

My sister had preemie (33 weeks) twins, boy and girl. He was bigger than her by a pound, but even still, together they were only slightly over 7 lbs. Interestingly, the docs said that baby girls tend to be stronger than baby boys...so, hang in there, it will all eventually work out...my nephew is now 14, stands almost 6' tall and weights about 175 lbs. Ditto what everybody has already posted on social workers, church, WIC, etc. Also, stock up on whatever the hospital is providing...they are mostly pretty generous with all of the "stuff," especially if you make friends with the nurses!

What kind of work do you do?
