Clam Shells: To Use Or Not To Use?

Hi!

Some friends and I had seafood yesterday. We had crabs and clams.

The clams were bought live, and cleaned in hot water and then boiled in JUST water.

Are they safe to use in my fish tanks?

Later!
Amanda.

Hmmm, that is a good question. I would guess if you boiled the rest of the "meat" off the shells they should be ok.

They are fine.

Might even raise the ph but not positive on that. I know my shells do.... but they aren't the same type of shells.

If clams are from fresh or brackish water, I would not use them in my aquarium until they were boiled thouroughly in saltwater and then dried in the sun on concrete a month. But that's just me. (IMHO).
