Brazil Nut Breeding Huts

Members
Brazil Nut breeding huts from GoWildPeru for delivery to April 9 Capital Cichlid Association meeting.

See GoWildPeru on Facebook for pictures of the breeding huts/cocos.

The fruit takes 14 months to mature after pollination of the flowers. The fruit itself is a large capsule 10–15 cm (3.9–5.9 in) in diameter, resembling a coconut endocarp in size and weighing up to 2 kg (4.4 lb). It has a hard, woody shell 8–12 mm (0.31–0.47 in) thick, which contains eight to 24 triangular seeds 4–5 cm (1.6–2.0 in) long nuts (the "Brazil nuts") packed like the segments of an orange.

One for $8, two for $15, three for $21 then $7 each for the hard, woody shells that the locals call ‘Cocos.’ They vary in size as stated above. They do not contain the Brazil nuts.

The 'cocos' are excellent used as 'fish huts' and even small decorative planters. They are not drilled as different fish want entry holes at different places.
