Ok no problem rsretep, first things first thats only a 1 liter bottle. Any bottle will work it depends on your tank and what role you want this filter to play far as all filtering duties or a secondary filter.
Materials
1 liter bottle
Filter media/ Gravel
Sponge
Suction cup found on heaters
Air pump and air line
Step 1: Take your 1 liter bottle and put holes in the bottom of the bottle (you want to put a lot of holes) and put a hole in the side of the bottle for your suction cup, this will hold your filter in place so it wont move.
Step 2: Put holes in the cap of the bottle, put as many holes as you want in the cap. The more holes in the cap the better I will explain why later. Put a hole in the neck of your bottle ( the area right below the cap), this hole must be big enough for your airline to get through but not so big you want your airline tubing snug in the hole.
Step 3: Put your Filter media or gravel in the bottle and fill it about 60% of the bottle, Now put your airline tubing in the hole you have in the neck of the bottle.
Step 4: Now put the sponge over your bottle in the cap area but you dont want your sponge to be huge cut it if you have to, put your suction cup in the hole on the side that you made for the suction cup.
Step 5: Turn on your air pump, Turn your bottle upside down (this means cap facing down and bottom facing up) and put it in your tank in your desired location. You want your filter near the bottom or in the mid level in your tank. NOW YOU HAVE A FILTER.
This how it works: The bubbles come from the airline tubing that you have in the neck of the bottle, goes thru the bottle and out the bottom of the bottle which is up because its upside down that why you need the holes in the bottle so the bubbles can escape and create suction. This suction makes water come through the sponge and thru the holes in the cap of your bottle( thats why you out holes in the cap). So you the water gets filtered thru the sponge and thru the media or gravel and thats where your good bacteria grows in the gravel or media bubbles out the top.
