I thought I would let everyone know what's happening concerning the Biotope. It has been agreed upon at the last board meeting that the Biotope would be printed as a benefit for members, by the members.

Tracey Kelly and Bob Pilato have agreed to edit each issue.

The Biotope schedule for publication is January 2006, April 2006, July 2006, and October 2006.
The typical layout will be color cover and B/W inside with 20 pages. The annual estimated costs of printing is $725.00. Each issue will be handed out at the meeting to save costs on mailing. The Membership Chair will give them out as usual.

All submissions are needed by 15th of the month prior to publication

Ads will be accepted: 1/4 page $25, 1/2 page $50, full page $100

In order to enable the Biotope Committee to have the CCA newsletter published, the following features are needed for each issue:

SEND IT AS AN E-MAIL OR IN WORD.

BAP Chair Report:
Who bred what, how many points

Treasurer Auction Summary Report:
Species, and how much it sold for

Membership Report:
Total current members, and new members w/interests if listed on application

Box Exchange Chair Report:
A summary of fish traded, donators, voucher recipients

Program Chair Schedule Report:
Schedule, bios of future speaker, and summary of previous speaker

Board Minutes and Treasury Report:
When applicable

Breeding articles, How To Articles, Event Articles, Fish Keeping Supply Revue Articles, Cartoons, Drawings,
Species Highlights, Photos, Fishroom Articles...

I have received an article from Sarah so far. Please submit stuff before the holidays begin to get it out of the way and not have me putting it together during that time. Be nice.

I will print it on my color laser printer if the club buys the paper and toner. Also, someone from the club must agree to bring the copies to the meeting if I cannot attend. I think this can save the club 500 per year, plus the Biotope can be color throughout.

Of course, it would be nicer to have a committee meeting one night or so before the club meeting to print and staple the Biotope and maybe have a "BRING A DISH" or "PIZZA ORDER" for the "helping" committee.

Anyone want to help do this, and can do this about 1-2 weeks before the club meeting, of that print quarter?

Are you saying party at Ron's? With all that beer under and in the fridge ???? That he offers to my b/f and not me  :p Just kidding Ron :) But if there is Ron's beer, some food (maybe I'll cook something) ... and music playing in the background... I'm in :)

Well, I think this is at least a good idea if enough can help, maybe we can't do every issue if there is nobody to help, but we can at least cover an issue or more a year and save the club some bucks for each issue we do ourselves.

Another part will be that the issue is ready to print far enough in advance so we can find a night where people can help.

Sounds like a plan. I'll try to get off my patootie & come up with things for my section of the Biotope. I don't have any pictures to add for the past presentations, but I'll try to remember to toss the digital camera in my bag for the future events (oh yeah........just wait, I'll be sure to have it on hand for the Mexican Christmas party heee heee!)

As far as putting the thing together, count me in as well - I'm great with a stapler.......
It will just depend on what day everyone is meeting, because my work schedule right now is kinda goofy.

Other than that though, you know I'll help where I can.

Reminder: I need all the stuff I asked for by the 15th of the month. Pat and Sarah have sent in their stuff already.
Go up to the original post to see what you are supposed to be submitting.

Thanks,
Francine

Since being given access to the Member's Only area (no jacket required I hope), I have been reading the previous posts so many of my new posts will be related to topics of lore.

Anyway, since I live close to Ron, I have no problem helping out with putting the newletter together, as long as it is not on a Monday or Wednesday, my wife is attempting to get an education...darn those equal rights <_< .

Another proposal I would like to make, is to make the Biotope issues available online. I would love to have access to it from my computer and not just in hardcopy. Especially when I was contemplating whether I wanted to join.

We have Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Acrobat, so I am sure that I would be able to convert the files into a PDF document that we could load on the server. Maybe we could make one issue available for non-members, to show them one of the benefits of joining, and have the others in the members only section. I'm willing to convert all the back issues as well, as long as they are in a convertable format. Heck, I have a scanner, so at the very least I could scan hardcopies and convert them into PDFs

Let me know what you guys think. I didn't join this association for nuthin'. My philosophy is that you only get out of it, what you put into it.

Your offer to help out has been accepted! Currently, a copy of the Biotope has been sent to another printer to be priced out. Ron is working on setting up his laser printer to allow the club to print in-house.

Previously it had been brought before the members about electronically viewing the Biotope. At that time the membership preferred to have the hard copy. As I see a benefit of having an online version for prospective members, I think that only one copy of an old issue should be available for non members to view. There is a link on the main CCA page just for this. I suppose we'll have to get a copy for Christy to put up. Thanks for the reminder.

The conversion to PDF can be done from the software used to create the Biotope; imposed or not.
