Algae Or Parasite

Just noticed something in one of my tanks. Looks like a type of algae but I am not too sure.
It is a single strand that is about 1/4 inch long. It branches out at the top. It is attached to the glass.
There are multiples in one tank. The weird thing is it immediatly shrinks if I turn off the light and it comes
back up when I turn the light on. Help, if it is a parasite, I dont want in other tanks.

Do a Google search for Hydra and see if it looks like that...

Thats it. Now to get rid of it before it spreads.

Yep - sounds like Hydra.
Two treatments of Formalin usually killed them without harming the
fish. I've even used it in small tanks with fry and no fry were harmed.
The first treatment makes them 'close up' and the second one finishes
the job. Keep in mind - even if one survives - they'll be back!

I had to buy 3 bottles to treat all tanks one time. Have to get some more for the next one.
