A Wonderful Surprise

I had posted a few weeks ago about my Angelicus Plecos (L028) spawning, and that I thought I had lost the entire batch when I moved them into a 10 gal tank. We were going out of town and I figured they'd have more of a chance in an established tank with some wood and a mattenfilter to pick at for food. When we got back, I picked up the driftwood and looked underneath, I couldn't see many babies and those that I did see, didn't look good. They weren't swimming right so I figured I had lost the entire batch. I even went back after the lights were out to see if any more had emerged. Nope.

Well, I got caught up on some of my waterchanges yesterday, and was double checking tanks this morning before I left the house (tank lights were still out). I did a double take when I got to the 10 that the L028s had been in...it turns out that quite a few made it! I haven't seen these little dudes for weeks and yet....there they were....at least a dozen or more....right on the front glass of the tank. I was so glad to see them! And they are really stinkin' cute, too. They're only about 1/3 of an inch but you can already see their spots!

Happy Monday!

Very Very COOL! Congrats on the spawn.

Were you hitting them with soft water? Any other triggers?

I had tried some RO but didn't see any difference. So I reverted back to regular, dechlorinated Montgomery County tap water.

There did seem to be a trigger for spawning...granted, I have only a single data point to support this, so it could be coincidence. They spawned just a few days days after adding a powerhead with the valve for the bubbles left wide open. So they've got the powerhead on one end of the 55 and the canister filter return on the other. Lots of aeration and cross-flow.
