So I have a 40L with about 9 Orange laser cories, 1 lone cardinal tetra, and a male blue ram. Everyone else did not make the move....oh and some plants. I am cleaning up the basement tonight and hopefully tomorrow setting up the 125. Its a sump, titanium heater, and a emp 400 on it. I was originally planning on a planted tank. I am now having second thoughts. Plants are not really my forte....I have managed to be able to keep low lights alive though. So now I need some suggestions. FYI im a sucker for colors.
.
A. Keep current stock add more orange laser cories, a school of cardinals, and a female blue ram. Maybe a cool pleco or any other compatible fish?

B. Something new world but with a little more size then my current feeder sized fish.

C. Something old world. Cant be malawi since that is what I was doing before.

D. Something odd ball. I love gars and pbass but I do not think this tank would not be suited for it long term.

do not be afraid of plants! have you concidered crypts??? i had my 125 filled with them everywhere, different species like : wendtii (red, green, bronze, florida sunset...) becketii, walkerii, walkerii x usteriana, usteriana, pontederiifolia, cordata, parva, nurii, balansae (green, red) ....you have basicly have foreground, midground and back plants and your tank will look killer! =)

Geos aren't bad at all...

... they do however like to rearrange things to put it mildly. Biotodoma cupidos rock - mellow, striking and will eat from your finger if you so desire. +1 on Tony's plant comments - right spectrum bright light and the right species makes for a lot you can do with out any bells and whistles. You could also stay small and go for a few types of dwarf cichilds all at once - Nanacaras, Apistos and Dicrossus - sort of like the 'jewel box', i.e., lots of small pretty things. Tank that large you could probably spawn 4 species at more or less the same time if you hardscaped it so as to give all of them their own territories/spawning areas. Twas me I'd do both - Cupid ciclhids for size, the rest to gild the lily, or forget the Cupids and go get 30 of Jeff's neons. It's a 125 - go for it.

What fun.

I'll have to do some research on geos. They seem interesting. Tank is almost ready should be filled tonight! Any more ideas?

You want stocking ideas for the 125 or the 40L? Sounds like your 40L needs work to me!;) I'd pull the blue ram (yawn) and add a pair of rainbow cichlids. Keep the cories, add plants, add a nice ABN from Tony and then add a group of rasboras or smaller tetra maybe rummynose or green fires. Or just get more friends for the cardinal . . .

I have a tank something like that and it's very satisfying.

Where does one find Biotodoma Cupidos? Don't think I've ever seen them at a LFS, but they do sound nice.
