I have new and used 300w jaeger heaters, one is more than enough for a 55, lol. Also a couple different sizes of hydrosponge pro's. New heaters $25, used $15, $7 each for the sponge filters.
I use an Aquaclear 110 powerhead to pump water from a 55 gallon trash can on wheels into my tanks. It would work just as well the other way around, though I'd put a quickfilter on the intake for in-tank use.
Working Saturday, can't make it to the meeting, main reason I'm no longer an active member of the CCA. I could possibly meet in Frederick, assuming the weather isn't horrible, if someone wants to arrange a group buy.
Lucas, I did respond to your PM, but can't find it in my "sent" file, so I...
Downsizing the fish, will have tanks/stands available later, need to empty some out first.
Australoheros oblongum, half-grown juvies, several dozen available, $5/each or $25/6.
Super red BN, unsexed juvies $3/each or $15/6, $30/pair for adult breeders.
Undertow UG filter plates, (2) 12x36...
I've been using the Hydro Sponge Pro replacement sponges on my intakes, with half an aquaclear quickfilter insert core to keep fish and snails out of the open bottom hole. (I lost a couple BN that got stuck up inisde the sponges.) That combo also picks up quite a lot more debris and doesn't clog...
If you can find a plagiostoma spiney eel they're egg eaters. Stay small, around 8-9" max, and unlike most other eels they don't bury themselves in the substrate. They will eat any eggs in the tank, right out from under the parents protecting them.
Breeding butterfly fish is easy, raising the fry not so much. They are actually FW flying fish, and will jump through any available opening. Not fond of water movement, and prefer floating plants for cover. They'll only eat floating food, typically floating pellets are fine, I found that live...
I have unsexed juvies available, amazingly mixed sizes among the spawn after growing out all spring and summer, the largest are 3x the size of the smallest now. $25/6 + shipping, cool water fish that don't need a heater unless you want to warm them up to spawn. These aren't aggressive like red...
That's a fairly typical number of eggs/fry for most SA or CA cichlids of any size. Large adult Oscars will produce over 1000 eggs each spawn. One reason I prefer African cichlids in general, lol.
It takes time for copper to leach enough ions into the water to have any impact on inverts, running water through pipes in the house doesn't allow it to build up. Harmless to fish in any case, the only thing I ever noticed about using copper sulfate then cleaning the tank thoroughly didn't make...
I have a few available. A swallowtail eureka red male, a large ruby red, and a smaller male from a different line of ruby reds that's a bit oddly colored. Also have a larger male from the odd ruby red line that's yellow-orange all over.
Tiny BN fry can be safely eaten by larger fish, it takes some time for the spines to develop and make them dangerous. I used to toss excess BN fry into cichlid tanks, and while most get snatched right up there were always a few that grew out.
I've bred and raised thousands of BN (and even more snails, lol) on a staple diet of NLS Grow pellets, and occasionally Ken's Premium veggie flake or canned green beans for variety in their diet.
