Hey guys,
I'm gonna be making a UGJ system for my 55 im planning on running 2 Penguin 350 biowheels and a magnum 350 canister. I want to have 4 jets, One on each side and 2 in the front end of the tank. I can't find a powerhead I'm willing to order yet mostly because I don't want too weak/strong flow (more concerned about weak). I was looking at this one though and I was curious to know if anyone has ever used one and if they think it would work well for what im trying to do.

I would just go with the marineland maxijet but their most powerful powerhead only reaches 290gph which I have been told would be kind of weak for 4 jets and that much pvc.
Any advice/input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I've had a couple Aquaclear powerheads when I first started reefing and they were sort of junky. I switched over to Maxijets and haven't looked back.

Whichever brand you pick, I would consider using two (or more) of them. This will better distribute flow to each output. If you used a single powerhead, you would get great flow at the closest outlet and next to nothing at the opposite end of the tank.

This article has a good diagram of his piping and powerheads: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/ug_jets.php

Good luck and take some picutres. :)

Thanks Tony thats what I originally thought, I got a chance to see an aquaclear powerhead outside the box at the store today and I wasn't impressed. I guess I'll go two maxijet 1200's with three jets on each, come to think of it, that will still come out to less than the aquaclear power head.
That article is good and someone else recently made a post on CF about UGJ's which ill refer to.

Take a look at the Vortech powerheads. They are not cheap, but they are the best powerhead I've ever used. And I've tried them all.

Walmart sells the Regent version (still made Marineland) of the 170GPH Max-jet for 19.99. Plus If you don't like the flow you can always take them back. Deals from Wisconsin, LLC on ebay usually has the 170GPH Max-Jet with the prefilter for 27.99 plus shipping.
