I have a 65 gallon tank that I am currently setting up as a tropheus tank. I was going to purchase some holey rock this weekend, but I was wondering if I could used dry live rock instead since I have a box full lying around will it work?

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend either for Tropheus. They are super fast and can damage themselves very easily on the sharp edges. I always use plain ole river rocks in my Trop tanks, and I keep around 8 species.

You also want to either crowd the tank with fish and or use very little rock to keep the aggression down.

Very good article on the do'd and don't of aquascaping a Tang tank.
