The water in the middle tank of the three on the top tier of the new tank rack turned green, so I put some Daphnia cowherdi in it. This morning when I looked in the tank, the water was almost clear, which means it's time to siphon off some daphnia and give them to the black bandeds and the baby jaguar. As I was looking in the tank, this big fat round daphnia swam to the surface, and then started sinking like a rock. When he was about halfway to the bottom, a smaller daphnia burst out from the bigger one and swam away, and the now clear, empty carapace sank to the bottom.
I knew that daphnia shed their carapaces as they grew; this is the first time I'd ever seen it.
