That's a pretty broad question to ask. Find one that you like and really want to keep, then its easier to see if there are any others that can fit in with them.
It also depends on what you are looking for. You could keep multiple apisto pairs in a 55, but probably only 2-3 single species of medium growing New Worlds. Or a pair and some others to get beat on when they spawn.

You can fit a pair of Dovii in a 55 for life.........

I've got 5 gorilla umbees in a 29 with an arrowana... May move them up to a 40 breeder once they put on some size. Think that'll be pretty solid for the colony for the next year or two.
