Securing 3D background?

I'm new here and just got my 55 gallon tank setup and started about a week and a half ago. I want to create a nice 3d background for the tank, which shouldn't be a problem to build. My question is how can I secure the background to the tank without using silicone? I have read on here that it can become very messy if it breaks loose. Can someone provides one proven ways? Pictures would help out a lot!

I was able to attach suction cups to mine. It worked pretty well. The problem is I'd get unwanted growth behind it, so I took it out. To bad too, the tile back brop looked great.

Not to crush your dreams but If your keeping the stock you said you had in your last thread, adding a 3D background is only going to make the width of the tank smaller. Given the size the fish will reach they won't be able to turn around.

I understand your concerns. Im now more informed about my fish and am actively searching for a 150 gallon tank or bigger. I plan on making a 3d background for that tank. Im looking for something wide, but the background will be fairly thin, 3 inches at most.

Just remember to make it in pieces so you can actually get it in the tank. A friend of mine made one years ago, then he called me up one day and said S*$%, I can't believe if forgot about that.

Installation before there is water in the tank makes for a better job, I think. Use silicone and give it time to cure properly before adding water.

We have commercial slimline backgrounds (say 1-1.5") in most of our tanks. Always have installed them before water and siliconed in.

Where did you get your slimline background from?

I think tile background's are better. They don't take up any space way from the fish and looks awesome.

Unfortunately, I had to take it out because I didn't seal it properly. I plan on resealing it and putting it back in sometime soon. I also change out to sand.
