Mesonauta mirificus spawn

The wild pair of mirificus festivums that I got from Mike Barber spawned a couple of days ago in my 180g SA community. He brought them back from Peru a couple of years ago, I think.

It's an odd couple in that the female is about 4.5" and the male's an inch or so smaller. They eat pellets and occasional red wigglers. I keep the tank about 80 and do frequent water changes with tap water. I usually add a couple of Indian Almond leaves to the tank after water changes.

Like other festivums in the tank (I also have M. festivus and M. insignis in there), they spawned near the top of a large piece of driftwood.

They're amazing parents and keep the other fish at bay.

I siphoned some wigglers to hopefully raise a few. If they're like other festivums, the fry grow super slowly....

Don't have any pics, of course :)

They were able to bully the M. insignis pair off of that piece of driftwood.

I guess I should return the glass cleaning magnets to their usual position so that they can spawn on them!

There's a pair of Krobia xinguensis that have spawned in the strawberry pot as well. It'll be harder to locate and extract the wigglers from them...

Congrats on the spawn, buddy.
