Leleupi and Victorians?

I know mixing fish from different lakes isn't the best idea, but I know it can be done in some circumstances without any issues. Just trying to see if anyone has tried this combination or if they have any thoughts on why it might or might not work. I figure with the different coloration and body shape there might not be inter species aggression, but I know they're both generally pretty aggressive fish.

If it could work, what is the minimum size tank you'd recommend? What type of scaping might help limit aggression? I have a young adult group of vics but don't have the leleupi yet. Would it be better to start with juvenile leleupi or add a pair?

Vics that are big enough to eat yellow swimming sticks (leleupi) will do so in a minute.

Otherwise, you shouldn't have problems unless the leleupi decide to pair off and breed (and then all the fish in the tank will get whacked)...

I had adult Leleupi with sub-adult zystichromis phytophagus (christmas fulus) and they got along. The Fulus stayed mostly in the upper level of the tank while the leleupi hung out in the rocks. I've moved the fulus and keep them with a group of shellies. They seem to be OK. I set up that tank back in September. It's temporary though.

Never tried it.... but if I had to guess if it would work or not...

I would bet it does work. Personally I would try for young leleupi and pair them off. Your chances of it working would be better this way. min tank would be 3 foot.... 4 foot would be better though.

Leleupi are mean to each other and to shellies and gobies... past that they get along with most fish as long as the body shape isn't the same and temperment is equal.

what vics?
Pundamilia nyerei.

Would the height of the tank be more important than the length since they occupy different strata in the tank?

Sounds like in a big enough tank with non-snack size leleupi it may work, at least until breeding time occurs. If I find the right size individuals I will probably give it a try. I will start a new thread if that ends up being the case.

Nyererei are down right nasty when they are adults and start spawning. I keep mine in a 55 with some other species and they are always picking on the other fish. I dont know much about leleupi but it sounds like they can hold their own. I wouldn't keep nyerereis in anything smaller then 3 feet but 4 is more ideal. I have some adult nyerereis if you want some. Send me a pm and we can talk.
