What have you read about Malawi cichlids so far? There are many types of "Malawi habitats," just as there are many types of Malawi cichlids. There are many good books that are available, including some that are relatively brief but still good (such as Mark Smith's _Lake Malawi Cichlids_, in the Barron's series, which I think sells for about $8). And magazines like Tropical Fish Hobbyist and _FAMA_ routinely carry articles on Malawi cichlids (the jewels of the cichlid treasury, right, Francine?)
Then there are websites, and one of my favorites is "The Cichlid Fishes of Lake Malawi" (http://malawicichlids.com/index.htm), which contains links to many useful sites. You might also want to check out the site of the "European coalition" (my term), which contains a lot of useful information: http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/aquai...info/index.html
(If nothing else, you'll enjoy the photographs of their tanks.)
Any time you spend studying the subject now will reward you in the future many times over as you save money and avoid stress and heartbreak*.
