My Nickies spawned,Yeah!! I can't post a picture of the eggs because they are buried in the nook of a log. The parents are currently beating the tar out of their tank mates. My male Festea(who thought he was gangsta) was reduced to a scaleless wimp in just one afternoon.I think he will make it but he's in ICU right now.I'll post a pic of the fry once they are free swimming which should be anytime now.

Looks like these guys spawned while I was away. I'm hoping they will be better parents this time. It already looks like they have already improved because I have wigglers, last time they ate the eggs:D:D I'll post some pics once the fry are free swimming.

Gratz. GL with the fry.

I have a pair going on two years now. They are very bonded. They dig hiuge pits and caves together under the rocks. But they will not spawn. Now that I hear about how aggressive yours are, I am glad mine dont. They rule the tank but are not neccesarily mean and dont hurt anyone in the community setting. Just short chases or dirty looks.

Great fish....Bill

Mine are turning into bad parents already:confused: The male will pick up any stray fry and return them to the log where the female is guarding them(Good)...
But then he will chase her all around the tank while other fish come in and pick off fry before he or she returns(Bad). I'm going to pull the remaining fry and I'll have to raise them in a separate tank(Ugh!!).

Good luck with the little guys Kevin. Post pics if you can. I'd like to see the parents in breeding dress.

It seem like things have finally calmed down. My male is the only one guarding the eggs now, he won't let anyone near including the female.

I'm going to leave things the way they are unless I notice something crazy happening.

Grats Kevin, I used to have these fish when I first started keeping cichlids. I read somewhere that the eggs aren't stuck to a substrate, rather they are laid in pits. Did you notice this with your eggs?

I wasn't home for this round so I'm not sure. Last time they used a hollow in a log.
