Holy Grail

Did you ever have a fish that you've always wanted and where always just a step behind or just can't seem to find it?
What fish do you consider to be your Holy Grail .
Why is this fish in this category? Is it because of price, size, availability, tank size or maybe its been banned etc..
Do you think you will ever get your Holy Grail?

My current Holy Grail is Ivanacara adoketa, what's yours?

Trouble is, I like 'em all. There are at least a half dozen species I'd like to keep, but don't have the space for, or the money for. Some big red discus. Electric blue dempseys. Rosy red feeder minnows (you really wouldn't guess how cool these are unless you learn about them.) Mummichog. Spotted pictus.

And, if I got rid of all my fish and started over again, with these, then there'd still be fish I'd want to keep. Just haven't thought of them yet.

Gnathonemus longibarbis, Tanganyikan Elephantnose

Would go with Lamprichthys tanganicus and Phyllonemus typus in a non-cichlid Lake Tanganyika display.

Its not that they arent available but as already stated I just dont have the room money or time for more tanks. Im currently lusting after a Mini reef tank, planted Discus tank, Tropheus tank, feather fin tank. I do want a TRAMITOCHROMIS INTERMEDIUS for my Hap/Peacock tank.

Mine are Ivanacara adoketa[/b]

Francine, I was lucky enough to see a pair of these guarding their fry a few weeks ago and I must say that at that moment I put them high on my list - they are gorgeous fish.

Mine was Chaetobranchopsis orbicularis... but I got some :) http://www.cichlidae.com/gallery.php?genus=Chaetobranchopsis

I'd also like to track down some Crenicara punctulatum: http://www.cichlidae.com/gallery.php?genus=Crenicara

I had some in the late '80's but haven't seen them in years.

Stomatepia mongo is one of the ultimate "holy grail" fish. There's one guy who has them (in Chicago). He paid a pretty penny for them and will be selling fry - when he gets some. I have S. pindu and mariae, but mongo will have to wait! http://www.cichlidae.com/gallery.php?genus=Stomatepia

Was it a local sighting?!!![/b]

It was in Pennsylvania. I am not sure if the breeder has let anyone know yet but I will let you know if it is OK with them. If the fry have survived, they would be 3 weeks old now. Those fish are beautiful.
