I just moved to Fredericksburg, va and started a tank up. I am looking to stock it up and the local stores seem to be so so on the fish they carry. Mumba Cichlids are what I am doing. I have a 125g tank with sand and some old dead live rock from years ago to help with the PH. I got sand as well. Tons of hiding places and caves. I got lucky and bought a few canister filters on craigslist so I got 3-4 of them running on the tank now. I plan to have about 20 to 22 fish and at max 30. So far I have 8 fish. 2 Crabro, 2 lombardoi, 2 red zebras and 2 yellow Labs. I plan to add 3 more of each fish minus the crabos since I heard crabos(Bumble bees) are not that great. Goal is to have 3 F to 1 m. Once they start to show their sex I will have to start rearranging fish if there is trouble in the tank. I want to add 1-2 more groups of fish to the mix. Do you have any ideas on ones to try? Would like to add some different colors if possible. I want to add them in 3-6 fish groups to prevent the water from crashing.

Welcome to the forum! There are lots of people with mbuna in the club. You should try to attend one of our meetings. We meet in Silver Spring, MD on the second Saturday of each month, including tomorrow!

I have Tropheops Sp. 'red cheek'. A not so common dwarf mbuna. I love them, they regularly spit out fry. I have a bunch close to an inch.

yellow labs and zebras will interbreed. I'm not sure I'd keep them both (even though you have a large enough tank).

I'd recommend p. acei as an additional mbuna. they are a pretty color and not too aggressive.

I don't anything about the crabo or lombardi.

Just a few things: with labs you don't have to worry about gender ratios very much. also, I'd suggest adding a small group of synos, may lucippinis/petricola or multipunctatus.

If you do a tank of rusties, labs and p. acei, you could also add a few male peacocks/haps for flash. Something to think about.
