At the November meeting I bought a bag of Haplochromis Obliquidens "Thick Skin" fry (nobody wanted them)and now they are breeding, first batch of 9 fry were released today. I didn't even notice one was holding until yesterday and put the female in a breeder net. These things breed at a small size, the dominant male is only 2".

The coloration on the male is amazing! Does anyone else keep these? I get the feeling that these are nasty fish. I only have them in a 20H.

Any info would be appreiciated. This is my first Victorian.

Haplochromis Obliquidens "Thick Skin" is one of the more aggressive Vic's ya can get . They will start spawning at as small as 1.5 inch and get about 5 in. when fully grown . As with most Vic's they are very prolific and will keep spawning about every other month . That's when most of the aggression will happen but they will chase and beat up on any sub dom. males all the time . And your gonna need a bigger tank they'll need at least a 4 footer .
