Flowerhorn Breeding Season is Here!

Valentine's Day marks the beginning of Flowerhorn Breeding Season. My 7" female Orange Fader lost her mate in Hurricane Sandy, but kept the old nest. To disrupt her aggression and territoriality, I removed a large rock and a piece of driftwood, did a 1/3 water change, brought the pH up to 7 and the temperature to 8.5. I introduced a new male 9" King Kamfa the next day. They took an hour to stake each other out, then danced for 36 hours, then took 6 days to dig a rectangular nest about 12 x 8 x 8 inches. They are spebding most of their time in it now except occasionally coming to the surface to eat. If it pans out, will be my 5th successful breeding in 8 years.
