Fish ladder in Rock Creek

Nice story about how the herring are now making it up a fish ladder at Pierce Mill and further up Rock Creek, during their annual spawning run.

That's cool. I haven't seen them running up the Creek at the zoo yet.

Years ago, my family and I went on a walk led by a park ranger, from Pierce Mill south of the zoo entrance. We saw a bunch going over an old ford in the creek. (We also saw a goldfish.)

This means that the Striped Bass are in the river as well, or lack thereof. Virginia Marine Resources Commission cancelled this years trophy fishing season because they have noticed a large decline in the populations. SHOCKER!!!! Lets net fish by the thousands in massive boats and expect the populations to constantly sustain themselves.

My wife and I went down to Pierce Mill this morning. We didn't see any herring near the ladder, but we walked north and saw some at a pedestrian bridge about 1.5 miles north. They seemed to be resting in a deep spot just north of some rapids.
