Filtration

I am wondering if having a charcoal filter will stabilize pH drop from filtering water through peat. I want to soften my water and make sure it's clean, but i don't want to cancel the effects of the peat with the charcoal. does anyone have any opinion on this?

Why do you want to use the charcoal? Peat lowers the pH by releasing
humic acid in the water column. I don't think charcoal will absorb the acid.
I'm not sure though...

Won't charcoal also take out the chemicals the city put in? (besides chlorine and chloramine) ---> I also kind of want to take out the tannins so i can get clearer pics. But this wasn't my initial intention when posting the thread.

what about replacing the charcoal filter with a micron filter? will this give me softer water that is clearer? that's what i am aiming for.
