So I picked up a pair of Double Red Apistos this weekend from Batfish. Wasn't planning on buying anything else, but you know how that goes ;)

in addition to the apistos, I have some pencilfish and Aspidora catfish. all I have right now is NLS Grow, NLS cichlid and some spirulina flakes. the fish have eaten anything I throw in there so far.

what type of staple dry food should I feed this mix? should I also get some frozen food for a weekly treat?

Spectrum makes a water-stable sinking pellet that I've been feeding my Apspidoras. It's good for growing fish because they can snack on it all day without it starting to get yucky. It will hold form for 24 hours. Plus, it's highly amusing to watch them all swarm over it.

YFS has a large selection of foods, there is actually a yfs group buy being picked up at the bbq.

I picked up a very similar combination and am curious what others are feeding as a staple too.

Mine seem to enjoy NLS small community, NLS cichlid pellet, and Ken's Golden Pearls (BBS alternative).

I have tanks on 3 separate floors of my house. Each floor has different food on it and I sort of wander around and move them as I go. Maybe the NLS community will be upstairs on Monday, but it's made it to the basement by Wednesday and the NLS cichlid formula is now upstairs now, etc. Maybe I decided to quit being lazy and wash the black worms so they'll all get some of those, or I'm thawing out some frozen in a cup and pouring a little in each tank. I don't think we have a "staple." Heck - if I catch a bug, that goes in the tank, too!

Think I might have to order some golden pearls though, since I'm hoping for some fry one of these days.

I've been using the golden pearls for almost 2 years now. I picked them up for when I was keeping Scarlet badis (dario dario) but they are an all around easy food to feed. The nutrition facts are pretty nice looking too.

The pearls float around the tank and are picked up by fish at all levels of the tank.

Hopefully I'll get some fry at some point and be able to feed them some pearls. Gotta get the fry first :p

That feeding schedule seems pretty similar to mine. I've got two tanks that are literally 8 feet apart (one inside my bedroom and the other just out) and I feed whatever I grab. The planted tank gets usually two of the three above. Which three? It all depends what's closest :p
