Canister Filter Tubes Length

Good Day:

I am in the process of setting up my Canister filter. I remember hearing or reading something that suggested one of the tubes be shorter than the other for maximum efficiency. I do not recall if it was the intake or output. Can anyone help?

I usually have the intake lower in the tank to help pick up as much debris on the bottom of the tank as possible. I keep the output high to help break the surface tension of the water and promote gas exchange.
