Anyone ever put together a breeder matrix?

Ok.. so it sounds odd.. but often I see posts of available fish that other members have. I notice a LOT of member trading, purchasing, etc. Anyone ever think to put together a list of people (CCA handles) with "currently breeding" or "available" or something along those lines. I tend to find fish I didn't know I had interest in until someone posts they are looking for them. Just a thought.

I was actually wondering about that the other day. If a new area could be set up somewhere on the forum, probobly under the marketplace.

Set it up so that it would be a list of all the species available. Click on the species for whoever has them available, which would route to a thread to ask questions about them. The breeders could even post pics and vids.

Organize the species by region, then subregion, then family, then species alphbetically.

Not only would this allow people to find what they are looking for more easily, it would allow potential breeders to know whats already being bread.

It would also provide an avenue for LFSs to find what they are looking for localy.

I don't know if this would work. It would be a pretty large undertaking by the club. Maybe it could be set up so that all transactions could be done through paypall and CCA could take a small cut to cover server and website maintanance costs. Or just make the transactions at meatings. Would require alot of trust in the breeders selling their products. Of course this would create a need for legal and lagistical needs that might prove to be to much.

If it can be done, it would launch the CCA to a whole new level. A service that no other forum provides.

This could really work.

Of course, I'm just brainstorming here.

Any thoughts?

One quick way to get an idea of their interest might be to use Aquabid. If people put some common tag in postings(say "CCA") then they could be retrieved with a search of CCA on the aquabid website. It seems that people interested in the lsitings would have to manual use the aquabid search.

The prob with the BAP is that it is restricted. Using those threads would put huge limitations on who could purchase.

Restricted as in only available to be viewed by members?

If this is the issue, viewing the BAP forum is only one of the minor benefits of becoming a member. Join and support the club.

I agree with those who recommend BAP as one of the many benefits of being a club member. I think there is value with knowing who in the club is breeding yellow labs or HRPs.

Something along these lines of a breeder matrix might be something where the ACA could provide value to its members. Where I think the ACA could be great resource would be with the rarer stuff, that there might be a handful of people in the country who are working with them.

Okay Marc, you asked for it and you've got it.
Start a new thread called 'CCA Species Matrix' by listing your species as pairs or breeding groups in each category of Old World, New World and Central, and Miscellaneous (sp) category, and its sex, for single specimens in case someone is looking for a hook up. Everyone will follow suit.

If anyone wants, I can change any of the graphics I put together for the Species matrix. I was just procrastinating from doing school work. I did not know if an excel file was necessary/appropriate or if anyone was thinking of something else. I recently tried to buy fish and wanted something few in the club were keeping. There was no good place to find one mega list. I hope this can be a start.

Also, I did not know where to post the thread. :happy0180:

What I meant was that if you place the breeder matrix in the BAP, you would be requiring anyone who wants to buy fish to become a paying members. This would eliminate at least 90% of all potential sales. Does aquabid require a paying membership? Do LFSs charge a fee just to walk in?

If you are wanting to set it up specifically for breeders, Then put it in the BAP. But if you want to make it an all in one page for breeder info and an awsome sales page, you can't require people to pay to view it.

The key might be to make it a combined effort with the ACA. Possibly a new site. Something simple like CL, but for fish only. With links a on CCA marketplace and ACA. Instead of requiring a membership fee for access, maybe charge a small listing fee through paypal.

Most clubs, if not all, require a membership fee. The difference would be that you would be buying fish from reliable sources locally.

But if you want something for nothing, forgetaboutit.

Be a part of something grand and join the club.

Otherwise, forgetaboutit or just forgetaboutit.

Sounds like what you are describing already exists - Aquabid.

If you want to know more about what people are breeding locally, join the club. Come to a meeting and get to know folks. You'll be amazed at the variety of fish that people in the CCA are keeping and are excited to tell you about. If all you are looking for is something for nothing - what can I say...

Supporting the club by becoming a member is all of $1.67 a month...
