red claw crab question

Hello,

I have 2 red claw crabs that I recently acquired. I am confused as to whether they should be kept in freshwater or in brackish water. I see some websites and care sheets that say they are "freshwater" and others say they are "brackish water" and others that say they can survive a year in freshwater and yet others that say they can not survive well in freshwater. Does anyone know anything about these crabs? All they appear to be doing is sitting on the pieces of wood I have floating for them in the tank. I never see them walking around the bottom of the tank. Occasionally, I will see one climbing on one of the plants or sitting on the sponge filter, but I don't see them on the bottom, even during the night. Does anyone have any advice? Right now, I have them in freshwater.

Thank you!
