Fry or Juvenile?

I usually use the term fry on any fish that you wouldn't be able to identify just by looking at them (usually stuff smaller than 3/4"). Once a fish starts to look like what it will as an adult, I call them juveniles. This is just my opinion, as I'm not sure there is a universally accepted delineation.

I agree that there is no universally acceptable definition.

Some species have distinctly different fry vs. adult color patterns which make it easier to discern. Others can look like miniature adults at even a very tiny size.

I generally go with juvenile when the fish are about a quarter of their adult size.

I do about what Jon does. If I can easily tell what it is and/or it's taken on relatively adult-like proportions (not size, just proportions), it's a juvenile.
