I'm sure in each people's hands, there are differents apisto that they consider easy to breed.
I've bred 3 different wild apisots now. Or should I say I have at least three different wild species that bred in spite of me?? The real trick, as it seems you may have found out, is keeping the fry alive. One clutch, I moved the male out of the tank as he seemed to be mentally bothering the female who was guarding the fry. Bad move, or bad timing... she ate them all, I guess she was too spooked by him being mia! So next batch, as soon as the fry were free swiming, I moved both adults, and now I have lots of babies. Of course the adults quickly got fit again, and I should have moved them last week... away from the new batch of fry, but I didn't have another ready tank!
Anyway, good luck with your next batch of fry, and as for your real question, I've bred wild apache, Hauswell, and some long-silly-named-undescribed-apisto-who's-named-translates-as-new-cold-river apisto.
