You can use lace rock, crushed coral, or African cichlid sand to buffer the ph for you. No additives needed.

I use Saechem American Cichlid Salt in my new world tanks. Works great.

I got some live rock that is supposed to be good since I made a lot of caves and it is supposed to help the ph. I really wish I had thought about using sand before I got the tank up.

It isn't hard to switch out from gravel to sand. I did it in my 180 a year ago without even removing the fish from the tank.

It's never too late.
