AquaMania - Whatcha Get?

Tony

Alligator Snapping Turtle/Past Pres
So between the rare fish silent auction, the pre-sales, the 30+ raffle items and the 30+ venders there, a lot of really good stuff changed hands over the weekend!

So I ask, what did you bring home?

I'll start:

  • Astatotilapia nubilia (Dave's - presale and rare fish auction)
  • Paralabidochromis chromogynos "Zue Island (Dave's - presale)
  • Amphilophus sp. "Amarillo" (Cichlids of the America - rare fish auction)
  • Hondoran Red Points (Ken Davis - Rare Fish Auction)
  • Assassin snails (Jesse - marketplace)
  • House gecko (Batfish Aquatics)
  • A plethora of caves and a breeding cone (Plecocaves.com raffle item)
  • Big container Cobalt flake food (Aquarium Beautiful prize)
  • 3x different awesome flavors of fish food (Your Fish Stuff - marketplace)
  • Metal halide/CF fixture for a 4' tank (marketplace)
  • Sold about 40-50 bags of fish :)

All-in-all, a great haul.

So... whatcha get?

I was there to sell more than to buy, but Catherine got some really nice plants from the GWAPA table and John Mangan to go in her new tank. Also stocked up on fish food and bags from YourFishStuff.

Didn't get a lot, but did get quality:

1. Two flavors of cichlid pellets that I'm excited to try... ingredients look superb (your fish stuff).

2. Show quality green terror from Tony's table (Formerly Jon's fish... a real beauty!)

What a fun weekend it was!

I wish I had time to go to the silent auction because I wanted those Stiphodons!

Anyway, I left the convention with:
Green Balbaulti shrimp from Rachel
A couple of rare plants from the GWAPA table
At least 4 fish food packets from YourFishStuff.com
A Repashy fish food package from the raffle
A mini canister filter from the CCA Members' Table
New friends and knowledge!

No fish, but a lovely bolbitis, a small anubias on a rock from Frank, some white sand and nice piece of wood from Stith. I was inspired to redo my Chi based on the Aquarium Beautiful content. Not a good photo but you get the idea

-A pair of Dicrossus maculatus (Jeff Rapps, pre-ordered).
-Two white and red female shrimp (from Rachel's table, cannot for the life of me remember the name, but my dumba** has been out of it so long I thought they were bumblebee shrimp)
-Itty Bitty Crab (Rachel's table)
-Horned snail (Rachel, too!)
-Some nice Rotala (CCA table)
-Crypts from (GWAPA table)
-Beautiful piece of rock with Anubias Nana from Frank
-20 gallon tank (from Tony, I think?)
-Small piece of pre-soaked wood (Batfish aquatics)
-A GINORMOUS piece of driftwood from the table that was next to Frank's. Someone said to me "good luck soaking that" on the way out... We got home, put it in a rubbermaid tub with hot water, and it plunked to the bottom. Guess it was presoaked? It is now a nice centerpiece in my otherwise boring 150 gallon Piranha tank. I just barely managed to get it in the tank.

I even came home with some cash left over, but that is only because the driftwood guys took credit!

I'm liking the new tank layout Holly! Good job...now just fill it in with more plants

Becca, I think you got some red crystal shrimp from Rachel.

Arlene

Arlene -- I'm not getting a special light for the Chi -- just the built in one. So I'm not sure the plants I have in there will even survive for long . . . Any thoughts?

I think this is indicative of some sort of semi-benign disease

I give myself some sort of perverse credit for not springing for a slightly obscene amount on 4 juvenile Retroculus lapidifer but did get:
6 Ptychochromis oligacanthus from Dave's Rare Fish
5-50 mµ bag golden pearls
6 very cool plants from GWAPA (you folks are my heros/heroines)
Another pair of Laetacara Araguaiae "Buckelkopf" from Mssr. Rapps
Pair of white Crayfish from Joshua/Batfish
4 coconut shells from Jesse (now if I could just find the dang fan bits for my drill)
A large and lovely female long-finned ABN from Holly-san
Huge bag of lush Bolbitis from Sensei (aka Andrew Blumhagen)
2 battery powered air pumps (and garden pots and a delightful stainless steel mister) from Madame Keyes
- and for the lordly sum of $5 a vintage mint stainless steel ice cream scoop with a cherry red bakelite handle, an old blue mason jar and a shovel at the Sat. flea market across the street!

Sort of on the light side for me fish-wise but I started last week at the PVAS meeting with the following from Batfish:
20 red lily bulbs
One pair of Laetacara Araguaiae "Buckelkopf"
6 Apistogramma iniridae
Pair of Apistogramma algodon
Two pair of featherfin rainbows

-plus spawning groups of Corydoras simulatus and Scleromystax kronei from Arthur/Redkahuna in Baltimore (CCA speaker next month) and 20 Red-head juvenile Geos off Aquabid (at $1/each how can one resist?).

But the crowning "get" has to be a pair of Blue phantom Hemiancistrus (L128) from Jeff Rapps. Wow. Huge and very very blue - almost feel like I must have done something dishonest to have scored these at AquaMania!

Great month, sort of set for the year - or at least until next month's PVAS auction. And then there's the GPASI auction up in Pittsburgh on May 5th - really great folks who made the trip down for AquaMania! - seem to have a lot of New World enthusiasts/breeders in their club and it's only 4 hours from DC. Right. Sounds like "cichlid love" - sort of like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSU17vvq-Ts
