Last night I set up two 30-gallon grow outs on the floor in the fish room (yes, that's how bad it's getting ). I put two sponge filters in each and outfitted them with the new air stones I got from DrsFosterSmith.com. As soon as I'd done this, many of my other filters stopped working. The more new airstones I added, the more old ones I needed to replace - the new stones seem to be more porous than the old ones, which is great because you get better flow, but not so great because all the air rushes out of those and you get nothing out of the new ones.
So, I've learned the hard way that if I'm going to replace air stones I have to replace them all at the same time and with the same type.
Is there a brand or type of air stone that lasts long/holds up well that people recommend for use with sponge filters? I know some don't use them, but I find that the bubbling of filters is FAR too noisy when there's no stones on any of them.
