Duckweed!!!

One of my aquariums is covered in duckweed. I've done my best several times to clear it. I believe it found it's way in via a plant from the LFS.

Any tips on getting rid of the duckweed, for good?

It's annoying.

Thanks Google! I'm going to give it a try this week. Maybe after a 3-4 "filterings" of the duckweed when it first appears again each time, it will go away.

Get a bunch of Apple snails.

Sorry, didn't see your reply. Yes. My rainbow cichlids also have come to love the stuff.

I'm not lucky enough to have fish who look for duckweed on the menu.

I had to use a solo cup and just dip it in and "suck" it out that way. Took a good few hours.

Then I would spot check every two weeks until any stubborn little ones stopped popping up. Now it is a memory.

I net it out once or twice a week. Just learn to love it.

I let frogbit run amuck in a large % of my tanks. I dig it with the long flowing roots. I like how the apistos "hunt" on the underside of the cover amongst the roots.

Anyways, the dead stuff probably makes good compost for your land plants.

I'm going to make a t-shirt with a circle backslash over an image of duckweed.

I bet it would sell well.
