Donations from Ted's Fish Room for Aquamania

Ted Judy (www.tedsfishroom.com) is sending a large box of very generous donations for the event.

Included will be various types of Repashy superfoods that will be paired with Auction lots in the Silent Auction. Others may be used for raffle prizes or in the marketplace.

I will list a few of the fish being sent for auction throughout the week. A lot of these fish are rarely seen or sold, so we are fortunate to have these sent to the club. Hopefully people will be generous with their bids and not be shy.

It will be great to have new fish available in the club, and the higher the bids, the more the club benefits.

First preview:

Paranannochromis brevirostris ‘Menguegne, Gabon’
Natural range – Menguegne River, Gabon
Source – F1, non sibling sexes, raised in TedsFishroom from wild fish collected in 2011
pH – 5.5 to 6.5
hardness – very soft, co carbonate hardness, very low Ca/Mg hardness
temp – low 70’s
breeding – best in pairs, manage aggression, seasonal
feeding – meat heavy omnivore – Repashy Community Plus, Shrimp Souffle, Meat Pie
This rare westie cichlid is beautiful, aggressive and shy. They need a dark tank with lots of hiding spaces. Choose a cave with a ¾†opening and a roomy interior, but stuff it with long fiber sphagnum moss. They spawn infrequently, but are very productive when they do spawn.

VERY COOL, Mike!

Thanks for coordinating this and thanks so much to Ted for his generous donations!

Can't wait to see what's next. :)

Another preview:

This one's for the people with small planted tanks, looking for something cool.

Otothryopsis piribebuy
Common name – Black oto (first appeared in the hobby as Otocinclus sp. ‘black’)
Natural range – Rio Piribebuy, Paraguay
Source – tank raised in TedsFishroom from breeders obtained in Germany
pH – 6.0 to 7.2
hardness – soft to moderate
temp – mid 70’s
breeding – need soft water, easy to produce in dedicated tank without egg predators, females place eggs on surfaces around the tank, fry grow up with parents
feeding – herbivore – Repashy Super Green or Soilent Green

This is a great little catfish that is not hard to spawn in soft water. Give them a lot of cover (plants, driftwood, rocks) and a good quality food, and they will reward you with fry. Soft water is necessary for fry survival. A ten-gallon is plenty of space for a colony of six adults.

Something cool for the Westie fans...

Barbus fasciolatus –
Common name – African Barred or Fire Barb
Natural Range – Angola, Africa
Source – tank raised in Asia
pH – 6.0 to 8.0
hardness – not picky
Temp – mid 70’s
breeding – easy, egg scatterer, soft water for best success
Feeding – micro-omnivore - Repashy Community Plus

West African barb that is not exported from the wild any more. They used to be know as Barbus barilloides. This is a great dither species for a West African dwarf cichlid, but they are also pretty enough to carry a planted display tank as the centerpiece species all on their own.

Another really cool non-cichlid...

Stiphodon percnopterygoinus
Common name – yellow/black stiphodon goby
Natural range – Taiwan
Source – wild
pH – 6.5 to 7.5
hardness – moderate hardness
temp – low 70’s
breeding – easy to spawn, but fry must live in marine water to mature
feeding – omnivore – Repashy Super Green

Stiphodon gobies live is fast, well oxygenated coastal streams. They are excellent algae eaters, colorful and are a lot of fun to watch. Give them some current and plenty to eat.

One more preview. A livebearer to show some of the awesome variety we'll have. There will be 3 more groups in the auction not currently listed, all very cool stuff. One of them being a rare cichlid that Anton Lamboj may or may not have discussed at a past meeting...

Please stop by the auction table tomorrow to see what is available.

Skiffia bilineata
Common name – Two-lined splitfin live bearer
Natural range - Rio Lerma basin, Rio Grande de Santiago, Nayarit, Mexico
Source – tank raised in TedsFishroom
pH – alkaline
hardness – moderate to hard
temp – cool… 60’s to low 70’s
breeding – easy, females produce a LOT of fry, adults will not eat fry
feeding – meat-leaning omnivore – Repashy Shrimp Souffle with once per week supplement with Spawn & Grow

This small goodeid is perfect for the conservation-minded hobbyist who wants to help maintain a threatened livebearer, but does not have a large tank to dedicate to them. A productive group of this species can be housed in a 20-gallon aquarium. Hardy, not picky, easy to spawn… great little fish.

Remaining donations just to tease anyone that couldn't make it, or give more info for the people that picked his awesome stuff up:

Dawkinsia (formerly Puntius) exclamatio
Common name – Exclamation Barb
Natural Range – Western Ghats, India
Source – wild caught
pH – 6.5-8.0
hardness – moderate
temp – low 70’s
breeding – moderate, egg scatterer, need some space
feeding – omnivore with a taste for green… Repashy Soilent Green, Community Plus

This rare barb from western India is one of the species in the filament barb complex. Like all members of the genus, this species grows large (6â€) and robust. They also see a planted tank as a salad bar. This fish with will eat hornwort!

Pelvicachromis sacrimontis
Common name – Giant Krib
Natural range – Niger River delta, Lagos, Nigeria
Source – wild caught
pH – 5.5 to 7.0
hardness – very soft, no carbonate hardness, very little Ca/Mg hardness
temp – low 70’s
breeding – moderate, aggressive adults, need acidic pH to ensure good sex ratio in fry
feeding – plant detritus and macro-invertebrates – Repashy Soilent Green & Shrimp Souffle

Nobody knows how well this fish is doing in the wild. They are still being exported occasionally, but not in large numbers. This species is susceptible to internal gut infections, so feed sparingly and include plant matter. Water quality is a must. They are also mean, so give them some space. Keep them from killing each other by including some extra kribs (P. pulcher) in the tank with them, but watch for hybridization! That can happen.

One more:

Pethia bandula
Common name – Bandula barb
Natural range – Sri Lanka
Source – tank-raised, Singapore
pH – 6.5 to 7.5
hardness – soft to moderate hardness
temp – mid 70’s
breeding – probably easy, egg scatterer
feeding – omnivore – Repashy Community Plus

This small red barb from Sri Lanka is a priority species (as are all the small fish in Sri Lanka). This fish grows up to look like a dwarf black ruby barb with more red, or a cherry barb on steroids. Like those two cousin species, the bandula barb is a nice, peaceful community fish.

Rats! Didnt see these come up in the silent auction! So would have bid on them!:lol:
He probably still has some on his list if you really want them.

I'm planning to put together an order when I get my CA community tank going, so it might be a good time for a group order. One of the ways we try to return the favor of our sponsor's generous donations is to spur interest in their fish and generate some sales for them after the event.

Those fish were awesome (great size and color) and held in one of the tanks on the display rack. I'm pretty sure Anton Lamboj talked about them when he was at one of our meeting's last year.
