Lake victoria isn't technically a rift lake and was formed quite differently than Malawi and tanganyika
That said, it's in east Africa vs. West Africa
There's a good article on cichlid-forum about the great lakes of east Africa
Another question:
Cichlasoma is currently used for only the acaras (many of which were aequidens)
Would true cichlasoma (eg ports) go in aequidens class or cichlasoma class (with fish that used to be cichlasoma but are now nandopsis, Heros, australoheros, archocentrus, etc)?
