    Recommendations For Timer/Power Strip

The motors for the electromechanical timers are more prone to failure than the digitals. I have gone through far more of those than the digitals. Recently I switched my fish room to two of these power strips...

How did you get into the hobby

I used to catch minnows and salamanders in the creek behind my house. Got a Hartz Mountain 10 gallon kit from Docktor's Pet to keep them in when my mom got tired of me stealing her mixing bowls to put them in. Took a few years after that before MTS set in but I was hooked from the first tank.

    ACA 2016

I did the same thing last year. Styro inside a roller bag, fish inside the styro. Checked through no issues. On the way back I carried a bag on the plane with me. TSA needed to take a look at it to verify that the fish were alive and then I was on my way.

    Bare Bottom tank for Juliedochromis

Most commercial breeders use bare bottom tanks. We used to use bare bottoms doing Julies on the farm I worked on as well. Take a flower pot and a piece of terracotta tile that is just big enough that the corners of the tile will extend beyond the rim of the flower pot. Invert the flower pot...

    Milwaukee Aquatics

Yep. I think driving to Milwaukee to pick one up probably isn't a good deal. But if you do come out you can check out my fish room.

    Ants in the Fish room.

When we first moved into the house we had a battle with carpenter ants. Nothing we tried worked. Ended up calling Terminix and haven't seen one since. They come out once a quarter. We still see spiders but I can't say we have had an ant or wasp anywhere in the house or porch since then.

Please help me ID this Fish

At first I would say it's an Aulonocara maulana peacock. However the white blaze is too pronounced and extends into the forehead. This is a characteristic of Sciaenochromis fryeri. Most likely it is a hybrid of the two which is fairly common.

    Planning Breeding Racks

Did you check to see whether you will max out your electrical usage? 1. Go to your breaker box and find out which outlets are on which breaker. Label the outlet covers with a number that corresponds to the breaker in the box. 2. Find out the amperage that each tank will draw. Plug your...

    Planning Breeding Racks

How are you going to deal with the excess humidity? More importantly how are your neighbors going to deal with the excess humidity coming from your apartment. They aren't going to be very happy with you when their windows and walls start sweating in the winter. Are you prepared for a $500 a...

Ideas for Hinge and Handle for Glass Top

Local breeder uses the plastic caps from soda bottles siliconed down upside down to the lids as handles. Actually works really well. You can make hinges using silicone on clean dry glass. 1. Clean and dry the glass. 2. Run a piece of masking tape parallel to the edges of the two glass...

Gymnogeophagus - which would you get?

I kept Corydoras ehrhardti with mine but Scleromystax barbatus also do well. I used to put my Gymno's outside in the summertime in large tubs and they do great and color up nicely. And you can put them out in spring and take them out in late fall. My favorites were Labiatus and Balzani. Andy

keeping fish in your hotel room

I am going to add a shameless product plug here. One thing I unfortunately discovered with the glass tube heaters is that they can melt a hole through the bottom of a Sterilite container if laid on the bottom. Especially if it is a model without a rubber bottom bumper. I switched my travel...

    L046 Zebra Plecos

I paid $200 ea. for my group. There is a breeder in Minnesota who has them available regularly but I am not sure he ships. Especially this time of year. Mine are about 2" SL now and I hope to have them breeding by fall. Andy

    Pelmatachromis Ocellifer

I used to keep P. nigrofasciatus but I haven't kept them in a long time. They are pretty much out of the Milwaukee area.

Are 20 Gallons Highs useful in a Fish Room?

20H are also useful tanks for growing out male fish to show. Place a divider in and you can grow out two males. I have one in my fish room but I use it for growing plants.

    Making A Muderer

A couple of other things that are missing from the show. DNA from Avery's sweat was found under the hood latch of the victim's RAV 4. A bullet with the victim's DNA on it was found in Avery's garage 4 months after the weapon had been confiscated by police. Avery was convicted in state court...
