Taking the time to do it right...

Pitch imperfect This might be a little compelling if it was accompanied by at least one credible anecdote involving someone who actually killed his/her fish by adding "unprepared" leaves. Personally never even heard of such a thing and reckon if one is woods-wise enough to differentiate between...

How did you get into the hobby

Mild yawn. I was thinking more along the lines of giant freshwater grouper - something to mildly terrorize the local children and generate urban legends...isn't that why grass carp are available? :D I'd do sturgeon but pretty sure they need running water like all the other really cool...

Homestretch for the global HFC phaseout agreement so slumming in Delhi, Vienna, Nairobi, et al. and re-wilding 15 acres in S. Indiana in between. Built a pond this winter in the middle of an acre tall-grass prairie restoration project, cleared too too many acres of invasive species, planted...

If an aerator threads in then the right adaptor will. "Standard" in this context is a misnomer as all threads are some sort of "standard" machine thread unless they're hand carved in lower Zimbabwe or some other other such place lacking an export market for hardware. I assembled the adaptor I...

I tripped myself in my own self talk.

Big tanks are OK although I found the standard 6" 120/125s to be far less stimulating and useful than tanks that are taller and deeper. Not to say that it's not amusing to have two to three larger species setting up "dens" at opposite ends and maybe also in the middle of a six foot tank...

Exactly - once there are exposed/unused threads all that's left is finding an adapter that uses the same threads on the end that screws into the faucet bridged to whatever you're connecting. You may go ahead and change the faucet but good chance that your local hardware store could set you up...

How did you get into the hobby

This drunk pedestrian literally ran into my truck one night in DC back in '09 and knocked himself out. Piled him into the cab and drove him to the address on his driver's license, turned out to be Tony and the rest is history. Miss you guys, and the life aquatic but do have a 100 gallon tank...

600 gallon - how much would you pay?

Not a chance that I would. Zip. Nada. Zilch.

    yesterday's fish panic

Well done One could do no less, but certainly not as well. Let's hear it for courageous intervention and its competent prosecution. They still spawning like there's no tomorrow?

    How many gallons?

Suppose some of us should hang on to our day jobs. I like the quarter volume of a dodecahedron - lo tech, as in Ancient Greece. Really glad to see you all are staying so (insert modifier here).

So when and where are meetings these days? JFK HS in SS, MD? At 2:00 PM? The "next meeting" tab on the home page is about last February's meeting. Might drop by if time allows....

    Off to the Amazon

Well alright then - went climbing for 2 1/2 months in Bolivia and Ecuador last year, reckon I could manage some time in the low country, particularly if I'm assured of good company. Let me know

    Off to the Amazon

Giant C. semiaquilis!!! A.k.a., Peruvian Blacks. There are also very large C. narcissus to be had in those parts I believe. I'd spring for shipping on a box if one of your group wants to split any such contents. Just dreaming... Rock and roll mate, rock and roll.

    Indulge/humor/regale me...please

Well alright then All very cool - and spawning Biotodomas is most uncommon, was told that it qualifies as a "spawn of the year" type event, but then some of us have more or less made such our perpetual mission in life.:D Still waiting to hear about those gigantic C. robustus and C...

Scanning the forums for the first time in months, longingly perusing stock lists for Dave's, Rapps, et al. and I MISS MY FISH! So, for all those of you who absconded with (oh alright - bought) my not inconsiderable stock of mostly New World species some 18-20+ months ago, how are they doing/did...

Are wild caught fish verifiable and worth the investment?

Wrong question... Deem foremost whether one qualifies to own anything wild. If spawning such is a remote, unlikely or largely wishful/fictitious proposition, then no. Period. If on the other hand, such a proposition is far from fantasy as attested to by past success and further qualified...

What a show-off. Of all you ostentatious, indulgent. self-serving acts this is the- - most seductive and metaphysically tantalizing one yet. Hoo-Rah. Hey Girl, did you ever get those energetic striped Madagascar cichlids to spawn (obviously their name escapes me). As they loved to do so...

    Brand preference?

Better living through chemicals? Wasting your money IM(not-at-all)HO. Not sure why you think you need all that, never knew anyone with more than a dozen tanks who ever touched the stuff. Use any de-chlor for tap, nothing for rain/RODI water, coral to buffer Rift/hardwater species, and...
