The fishroom is finally starting to look a little polished and I've been stocking the tanks so I figured I'd post an update.
Tank 1 is planted and stocked with 20 juvenile german blue rams and 30 white cloud mountain minnows
Tank 2 has a thriving colony of multies
Tank 3 is a quarinte tank...
solid advice, working on implementing it now.
While we are on the subject of multies, what do you guys think about possible tank mates? I've got them in a 40 gallon breeder right now and they are more than entitled to the entire bottom, but what fish can hang out at the middle or top of the...
So at this point i've heard it both ways, corys have to have sand, and corys literally come from river beds filled with jagged stones.
But i'm kinda stuck. I sprung for eco complete substrate to help with a few live plants, but now i'm feeling skittish about putting in sterbai corys into that...
So i took the multies plunge, found a nice colony of 11 adults and quite a few little fry available on craigslist and brought them home. Came with tons of escargo shells and everything.
in their new tank (a 40 gallon breeder) with a sandy bottom they seem quite content to dig, breed and spar...
Eco complete arrived today, so I was quick to get it into the indoor 40 gallon, and add a ton of plants that i've obtained. Then i filled it up and started the AQ70s. I'm hoping to cycle this tank lightning fast between eco complete, plants from an established tank, rock pieces that have been...
Thanks bud!
As for aqua huna, i've yet to buy from them, but the guy at aquarium co-op raves about them, and they have great customer reviews. its also hard to argue with $12,99 flat rate shipping, plus if you type in "aquariumcoop" at check out you get a 5% discount
The 40 breeder stands came in today, so there was a flurry of activity. The Tanks are all now in the right positions, but theres still plenty of wiring for heaters and lighting to do. Also my sponge filter tubing and what little electrical wiring that is up is still a mess...
I also got...
So i've got 3x AC 70s that i'm looking to run. They each have the sponge and the ceramic pellets, but there is still more room for media in them. I also have an older Aqueon 30 HOB, in need of media.
Finally, I'm looking for a good pre-intake sponge media to put on the intakes of all these...
@Freakgecko that doesn't sound too terrible. What do you if when algae gets on smaller or fragile plants though?
@halak What makes Amano shrimp so different from other shrimp types? hardier? faster? faster growing? larger? Whenever i think of adding shrimp i'm always reminded of when i tried...
thanks for the responses.
@halak Unfortunately a sump is out of the question, as i'm out of space. Working on trying to keep maybe a few little 10 gallons for side projects and pairings, we'll see if that flies.
Matten filter divider sounds ok. @IndianaSam How often do you have to clean...
I'm putting together a 40 gallon planted community tank. Though filled with docile fish this tank will be heavily stocked, and has a few species that are likely to breed (GBR and corydoras). If possible i'd like to encourage that breeding.
With these elements in mind, which fish should i...
I'm looking for Purchasable or DIY tricks I can use to squeeze the absolute most utility out of my single 40 gallon breeder.
For this tank I have the following objectives:
-overstock the tank in a community tank setting
-breed some or all of the following: german blue rams, panda corydoras or...
I'm looking for the all time greatest hits list of low maintenance but high yield plants.
Basically I just want plants that grow. The particular looks of the plants don't really matter, I'm just want rapidly growing plants to provide ample cover for more peaceful fish and for younger fish fry...
So with the covid crisis and the end of the spring semester, I'm starting up some fish tanks. I'm Not sure you can call it a "fishroom" per say, but its definitely something
Anyway I thought i'd keep a log here to share my progress and get some feedback and advice from forum members as...
Update after 48 and 72 hour tests.
So the results are in (and in picture form!)
At 48 hours we got on the high pH test this looks to me like 7.4? Maybe the 7.8?
I double checked on the lower pH scale, and got this looks like a 7.6 or maybe closer to 7.2?
At 72 hours on the high pH...
Update!
So the 24 hour test results are in, and i'm blown away once again.
On the high pH range test its looking like a pH of 7.8 or lower? I ran a regular range pH test as well, and its still at or above 7.6 on that scale.
Is my water simply devoid of buffers altogether? Or how can we...
