Mine took less than a year to go from 1" to 8". Females have more yellow in their anal fin when young and not showing much else in terms of sex. Before the blue face, yellow blaze, pointed fins, white/yellow dorsal margin...

Fx5 and filter floss dont mix to well(atleast with a heavy load) it clogs to fast and that motor is to powerful to be restricted.

After about two months without cleaning my fx5 shoots micro bubbles. I've concluded that when the media is fully clogged the filter sucks so hard that cavitation creates air inside the filter (or something like that). I think running it without media will determine if its a media issue or a...
On 9/9/2013 theres a thread titled "bored so I will share" not sure how to link to it but you should look it up.

It could be greatly influenced by the bigger fish in the tank. About a year ago rastafish posted a pic of a gold peacock he bred its one of the best pure yellow peacocks I've ever seen. Forget the thread name let me look around for it.

I got one a few months back and when I got it home it was brighter than my yellow lab. Over the last few months its lost its intensity almost has an orange tint but still yellow. It's doubled in size but doesn't look as good as it did when I got it.

Yes he's mine. He was the runt for six months. Great fish the pics don't do his fins any justice. Nice color but his fins are long gorgeous.
As for the hybrid, I figured a copadichromis for a while he does have the egg like ovatus shape but his anal fin is red and he's now much bigger than any...
First two pics are spilotonous tanzania, not your fish but the same species as mara rocks and their size is similar. He is 8" and has grown to that in a year. Second pic a fish sold as a "sulfur head hap" really just a hybrid I believe fryeri × mara rocks. Third pic otopharynx lithobates...
In this case there is 100% in my mind its beyond debate that fish is a hybrid. That doesn't make it bad dude I was just trying to help you out. I like when I post a pic and people point out its not what I thought it was. Beyond that if your raising fry its in everyones best interest to know...
Maylandi should have have no horizontal markings. There are several haps with horizontal lines or spots (protomelas, copadichromis, otopharynx.....) there are several fish in each one of those genus with some type of blaze. Including the copadicromis there are atleast 15 with a yellow white...

This is a decent pic of a real mara rocks. I should add a "sulfer head hap" isn't the same thing. A sulfer head hap is usually just a random hybrid with a blaze. Alot of the pics you see when you google mara rocks aren't actually...
If you only knew how foolish you sounded. I can tell you with 100% certainty you absolutely do not have a protomelas.

What you have is an apache peacock. Mara rocks is different from that fish. An apache is basically any fish that has a blaze but was created by hybridization. Ive seen them range from grey to blue to purple with white, yellow or orange blazes.
