I agree with Avatar. I use an emperor 280 HOB filter. Works much better with a pre-filter... And regular cartridge replacements .

Some area's of the country have very hard water. Not the best for softwater fish, ie Discus. Its almost impossible to get hard water to become "soft" without the physical process of Reverse Osmosis.
Hi All,
My tap water's Ph. ranges from 7.6-8 normally. I was concerned about "other" factors in my water. It's also fairly hard. I don't recall the exact measurment. Maybe 150-200ppm. I was going to use an RO/DI system to remove "other" factors in the water I can't test for. I'm...
Thanks Matt!
I'm considering keeping a nice breed of yellow labs and some Dragon Fire with these.

I need some help ladies and gentlemen. I've read an article stating that the azureus shouldn't be kept in a tank smaller than 5 feet. I have a 75 gallon.... Which is 4 feet. I just wanna be an educated and responsible hobbyist. Thanks in advance!

Ok, if you were starting a 75 gallon Malawi Tank.... What one or two species are A MUST? In your opinion of course.
Thanks in advance
Adam

Thanks Jon, I can see what you mean. I think I'd rather have multiple tanks instead of one with so many fish.
Happy fish are healthy fish in my book.

I do have one good question.... If you could have any Malawi, what species would that be?
I'm still learning new species every day but my top species is probably the "Hongi super red top"

So let me be sure I understand prefectly. If I have a lot of hiding places, ie rocks & caves...it will help curb aggression?

I've struggled with that. I like the idea of mbuna's hiding in the rocks but I also like the idea of the all male haps/ peacocks. I'm afraid to mix the three because of my lack of experience. I'm very much concerned about over aggressive fish in the tank.
