I feed my Africans New Life Spectrum pellets and Omega One pellets. Make sure that whatever food you feed them has plant matter, and you check the amount of protein on the label. You could cause bloat if you're constantly feeding them high protein food. You ideally want to be around 38% protein...
That is definitely a melanochromis johanni! The Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos look more like an Auratus

You could add a couple of melanochromis auratus they are colorful, but tend to be aggressive. I wouldn't add too much more to your stock JMO though. Unless you do tons of water changes and are running a nice filtration set up :)

George they aren't true Johanni they are Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos where the females are blue as well. If your still interested I'd definitely be willing to move some of them. I can post some pictures of them later :)

Pop eye looks like its from an injury. In bacterial infections both eyes are likely to be "popped". I would def use some kind of antibiotic and start treating right away.
EDIT: Do you have any jagged rocks or ornaments in the tank? It may have suffered an injury escaping a more dominant fish...
Thanks for all the kindness :)

Hi all! I'm a member of MFK and I figured I'd join up here too. I keep a 55 gallon with a few Africans in it.

They work well and are quiet, but they clog up easily and there is not much room for adding bio media. I made the mistake of running 2 55/75's on my 55 Malawi tank. Purchasing the filters for them got to be a lot of money spent... I got sick of changing the mech filter every 2 weeks and there is...
