Aquarium of the Smokies

Apparently there is an aquarium in Gatlinburg, Tennessee that is pretty impressive. News reports are that it has survived the fires:

Anyone ever been there?

Yes, been there. It is very nice with a tunnel under their big salt water tank and many great tanks. It is more or less in the center of town. Like to go back again but with the fires ... It was on the route we took to Grandmothers house.

Been there a couple times myself. It is a great aquarium, and is handled by a fantastic staff. Apparently the fire was *close*. I had actually heard word from friends and family in the area that it had burned. Very glad that news was inaccurate.

If any of you are ever in the area, it is worth a stop to visit this place. Goodness knows, the town could use the economic help. Christmas makes or breaks the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area. its so sad to see this happen at all, none the less for one of its most critical times of the year.
