Raising live food

How do you culture red wigglers, I've always wanted to start a colony but I never got to it. Also, can they live in the garage? My mom would freak if I had the colony inside.

Where you get this roaches/fruit flies ?

I ordered my roaches and fruit flies online. I got the roaches from http://aaronpauling.com/home and I buy my fruit flies (plus supplies) from http://www.buyfruitflies.com/.

The roaches easily reproduce and after an initial investment to get them started, I haven't had to buy anymore. As long as I keep up with rotating the flies into fresh cultures, I can theoretically keep going indefinitely. You can usually purchase both roaches and fly cultures at reptile expos as well.

I haven't tried feeding the fruit fly larvae to my fish since the larvae live in the food media and it would be too much work to get them out.

I keep my roach bins on top of my bearded dragon enclosure so they get plenty of heat. Its better than putting heat pads on them.
