Questions about ECC Auction

Avatar

Plenipotentiary-at-large
Last year I went to the Catfish Convention and the OCS. I bought heavily at both events but was far more impressed with the Catfish show, mostly because there seemed to be a greater variety of fish, both in rooms and at the auction, and the folks selling out of their rooms seemed to be doing it a bit more because they wanted to share than for love of money - availability and prices were far better than retail for both shows, but there were just great deals and more uncommon species at the Catfish Convention. That being said, and that nerely being my opinion, what's the ECC show typically like? Is it mostly African cichlids or might one expect a lot of Corydoras and other Amazonian species like Apistos, Crenichlas, tetras, etc.?

Thanks...

Sam, the ECC auction is hot!!!!!!!!!! There are plenty of fish, dry goods and beer!. Raffles, vendors and FREE BEER. Last year was my first fall auction and it was a blast. We will start a thread about carpooling and that makes it nice. Great time and good deals. I had to haul stuff home in my truck for Tony because he was full but thats the norm with anything!

This was our pre-reg list for the past Fall's Auction. This list is about 500 lots, and we ended up with 600 lots.

Thank you very much for that, very helpful. With no Apistos or Corys, only a few SA cichlids, a couple tetras and some plecos you could call it "Out of Africa". :D

Will there be a list like that available before the Spring auction? Probably won't be able to make it but one of my minions might.

"The List", as we call it on ECC, has become almost as popular as the actual Auction itself.
I have made sure that "The List" is posted on CCA during each of the past auctions.

Cool. I can see why - sort of iike once upon a time with the toy section of the old Sears-Roebuck catalogue before Christmas. Look forward to it...

Sam I won't lie.... it is mostly African ... but there were plenty of victorians, CA and SA.

Last auction there were a few cories, apistos, crenichlas, tetras. Keep in mind every auction is different. We never know what is going to show up until the day of. A very good guppy, swordtail breeder etc brings his fish to the auction as well! There are also plenty of catfish :)

There are always plants as well :)

It's a "different auction" ... meaning, I think it's more fun than any auction I have ever attended. Of course I don't have fun  Because I am helping run it.... but everyone has a smile of thier face. The two main auctioneers liven things up quite a bit! If you think bill is crazy at our mini auctions... he is twice as crazy at his

Its definitely a fun auction regardless of the selection (which is always huge). The past couple of times we went, we came back with a buzz and a vehicle full of fish boxes and bags. Its worth the trip even if you don't plan to buy any fish. Good food, free beer, and Bill as an auctioneer. What more could you want?

I'm definitely stoked for this spring. My favorite fish event, hands-down.

Exactly...more so as despite the prospect of adequate to excessive stimulation/gratification/debauchery I won't be able to make it this year and may attempt to solicit a 'runner' depending on the nature of the pre-auction list.

I think Tony is taking bids for rental space in the back of the Equinox. I think last time we brought back more fish for other people than we had for ourselves. We almost had to leave the jack and roadside kit behind.

Keep in mind that ECC is East Coast CICHLID and the catfish convention is run by the Potomac Valley AQUARIUM Society. Thus, by definition, you should have a better variety of types of fish at the catfish convention, and better variety of cichlids at the ECC. The fall ECC was mostly Malawi and Tanganyika cichlids, with some Vics and a few SA. No Apistos, no discus. There were plants, including some HUGE things that were donated, and a few plecos, cories, tetras and even some killies-guess who brought them :) But definitely a good time to be had!

I'm to blame for those buckets...Thanks again Tony and Mike (and whoever had to ride with fish on their laps)...

I hope it will be ready...we'll see...

Don't think my new 'hood does...but my wife certainly does

Does your new neighborhood have a policy on late night fish deliveries?

I think you had the most space/fish out of that trip. The new fishroom going to be ready by the next auction?
