First canister filter installed. How long to establish biologic filtration?

I gotta say that I'd never imagined cichlids to be so colorful. I've had angels forever, had a festivum once (brought it back to LFS as it was too aggressive for my community tank) and over the past two years gotten rams and krebs. The smaller mbuna's I'm looking to get should be a nice upgrade to my hobby. Rams died off, and Krebs are in a 45 gallon tank with angels, silver dollars, chinese algae eaters and some corys. The mbuna are going into my 55, started with 6 yellow tail acei at ~ 1/2" each.
