How worried should I be about this algae growing into the silicon.

Is this your tank?

I've actually thought about using an aquarium as a source of water to cool down LEDs and such... and whether it would work.

The glue you're seeing intrusion into is nothing to worry about -- it's not actually what holds your aquarium together. The glue between the joints does. You'll never get algae there, and even at that, unless it mutates into a silicon based life form--oh, we are all in trouble then.
