Hello and glad I found this site.
Looking forward to Aquamania2.

I'm new to Cichlids but love them.
I have a 90g male tank with about 25 of various species.

Already thinking on an upgrade to a 150-220g tank. :D

Welcome to the forum, Frank.

You definitely did stop in just at the right time. The event is going to be awesome.

What kinds of cichlids do you have? Malawi?

Thanks for the welcome messages.
Short story...
last summer, my son says: I want a fish tank. I say, no because it's a lot of responsibility and they need maintenance. (I had a 20g tank when I was in college).
Son goes to his mom and she agrees.
They go get a 10g and add fish the same day. (doh!)
After a while, we start dealing with cloudy waters, dead bodies, ammonia, etc.
Son is clueless. I ended up intervening. But it was too late.
All fish died. by then, I wanted fish.

So I started educating myself and researching.
I went to Craigslist and got me the 90g tank with the stand.
I got an FX5, air pump, heater, etc.
By thanksgiving, I successfully cycled the 90g tank.
Somewhere in the cycle process, someone said: why not cychlids?
I was like: why cychilds? don't they fight all the time?
After more research... here I am with a 90g full of them.
To be continued...

What kid of Cichlids?
I have mbunas, 2 haps, and peacocks. about 25 in total. There is a gold nugget pleco, 3 clown loaches, and one red tail shark.

So far so good. They all get along for the most part. I see the occasional chasing.
2 casualties:
1- ob zebra but this one came sick. It died the next day I bought it.
1- strawberry peacock. died very fast. not sure what happened.
I have a young German Red that got weak and was beaten. I later found that water conditions were bad. I moved him to a hospital tank and he seems to be doing good.
I then got the water conditions back to where they should:
Ammo = 0
Nitrites = 0
Nitrates = 10
PH = 8.0

How I found you?
By searching "cichlids in DC" in google.
I was curious to see if there was a local club about cichlids.
I'm looking forward to go to this event and be an active member.
There is a lot of good information in the forum. I hope the knowledge makes me a better keeper of these fish.

BTW, my son loves the tank and now helps me do maintenance. He now learned that you do need to do some research to commit to certain things such as keeping fish.
